Matthew Halpin and Paul Gota win all 3 rounds to secure a spot in the singles main draw at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Columbus, Ohio.
Halpin defeated UW-Green Bay’s Dipin Wadhwa, 6-1 6-0, in the first round. In the second, Halpin beat Toledo’s Luis Kleinschnitz, 6-2 6-3. In the final round, Halpin won two of three sets, 6-4 1-6 6-4, against the #1 player Niko Wasilewicz of UIC.
Gota had a bye in the first round which immediately advanced him to the second. In the second round, Gota defeated Marquette’s Brandon Shanklin, 6-3 6-3. In the third and final round of singles qualifying, Gota beat Daniel Nuzhny of Wisconsin, 7-5 1-6 6-4.
Both Paul Gota and Matthew Halpin will play on Saturday in the singles main draw alongside Matt Gamble, Guillermo Cabrera, Tristan McCormick, William Howells, Axel Nefve, Matt Che, Braeden Ho, and Conor Fu.
