NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The honors continue to pile up for University of Notre Dame men’s tennis senior Josh Hagar, who was named the Most Improved Player for the Midwest Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Monday.
The Most Improved Player Award is given to a senior each year. It is the second straight year that an Irish senior has earned regional distinction, as Alex Lawson copped the honor in 2016.
Hagar was recognized after putting together a 20-15 singles record and a 26-12 doubles mark during his senior season. He ranked as high as No. 27 in the singles rankings and No. 6 in doubles. He currently ranks No. 51 in singles and will compete in his first NCAA Singles Championship this season, taking place May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Georgia.
The senior from Austin, Texas, was named to the All-ACC First Team earlier this month, making him a two-time all-conference honoree.
Hagar will now be considered for the national Most Improved Player award, which will be announced by the ITA on May 23.
