NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Charmelle Green has been named Director of Student-Athlete Development and Welfare at the University of Notre Dame. Green has been with the University since July 2001 as an assistant softball coach.

The Student Development program focuses on providing a balanced Notre Dame experience for student-athletes by focusing on five key areas: academic excellence, athletic success, career preparation, community involvement and personal development.

During her tenure as an assistant coach with the softball program, Green’s primary focus was working with the team’s outfielders. In her four years with the squad, the Irish amassed a combined 176-67 (.724) record, claimed four BIG EAST regular season titles, won two conference tournament crowns and made four NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2005, the Irish earned a 45-13 record and the BIG EAST regular season championship en route to being named a host site for the NCAA regionals for the first time in school history.

Prior to her arrival at Notre Dame, Green performed a two-year stint (2000-01) as the top assistant with the Syracuse softball program and also served as an assistant at Colorado State for the 1999 season.

Before beginning her collegiate coaching career, Green was the recreation program coordinator for the Salt Lake County Recreation Department, while also coaching softball at West High School, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She has also worked as a residential social worker for the New Zealand Children and Young Persons Service in Christchurch, New Zealand, and served as an assistant director for the National Conference in Salt Lake City.

A 1991 Utah graduate, Green enjoyed one of the most prolific softball careers in the history of the Western Athletic Conference. She led the Utes to WAC titles in 1990 and ’91 while earning first-team All-America honors as a junior and second-team accolades as a senior.

She was named WAC Player of the Year and University of Utah Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in ’91. In 1997, she was nominated as Utah’s Female Athlete of the Century and was inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame in ’01.
