November 23, 1998

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame senior guard Danielle Green (Chicago, Ill.) has been named the BIG EAST co-Player of the Week after leading the Irish women’s basketball team to a 2-0 mark last week, including an 84-57 win over sixth-ranked Duke. Green averaged 21.5 ppg. and 10.0 rebounds.

In a 71-60 win at Butler, she netted a personal best 23 points for the second straight game and grabbed five rebounds. In the win over Duke she hit the 20-point mark for the third straight game as she scored 20 points, in addition to grabbing a personal best 15 rebounds.

Green leads the team in scoring (22.0 ppg.) and is tied with teammate Ruth Riley for the team’s top rebounding average (9.0 rpg.). She is hitting 55.6 percent of shots (25-45) from the field.

Notre Dame is off to its best start (3-0) since the 1995-96 season. The Irish currently are ranked seventh in the Associated Press Poll after starting the season at 19th. The number seven ranking ties the Irish with its all-time high, which they reached in early December during the 1996-97 campaign.
