Gleason Moves On In Singles, Doubles Draws At The WMU Super Challenge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – University of Notre Dame women’s tennis freshman Quinn Gleason (Mendon, N.Y.) won a pair of matches Saturday to advance in her respective draws at the Western Michigan University Super Challenge at the West Hills Athletic Club.

Gleason earned a hard-fought 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) decision over No. 124 Rebecca Shine of Louisville in the semifinals of the second singles draw. Gleason will face DePaul’s Jasmin Kling in the flight’s championship match. Kling defeated Western Michigan’s Kathleen Hawkins 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the bracket’s finals.

Gleason and playing partner Katherine White (Columbus, Ga.) recorded their second straight 9-7 win in as many days, dropping Carmen Sandor and Sarah Henderson of Penn State in the semifinals of the second doubles bracket. The Fighting Irish pair take on Carolyn Chupa/Katie Klyczek (Indiana) in the draw’s championship match.

White defeated Bowling Green’s Katie Brozovich in an action-packed three set contest in the consolation ladder of the No. 5 singles draw, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (7-5). White and Stefanie Villajuan (Louisville) will compete for the consolation championship in the fifth bracket.
