Glatzel Added To List Of Trophy Finalists

Notre Dame, Ind. – Senior attack Tom Glatzel (Ellicott City. Md.) has been one of four players added to the list of finalists for the inaugural Tewaaraton Trophy in 2001. He joins teammate David Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) as one of the 19 candidates for the award. Glatzel’s twin brother John, who plays at Syracuse University and is considered one of the top defensemen in the country, is also listed among the finalists.

The trophy will be presented which will be presented by the University Club of Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. The award will be presented annually to the top male and female lacrosse players in the United States. The first-ever honorees will be awarded the trophy on June 7, 2001.

The men’s committee will meet on May 22 to narrow the field of 19 candidates down to five finalists. Notre Dame is one of only three schools (Syracuse and Virginia the two others) to have more than one player under consideration for the award.

In addition to Glatzel and Ulrich, the finalists for the award include: Josh Coffman, John Glatzel, Rob Mulligan and Mike Springer (Syracuse), Conor Gill and Mark Koontz (Virginia), Holt Hopkins (Middlebury), Roger Buttles (Harvard), Trevor Tierney (Princeton), Conor Denihan (Johns Hopkins), Doug Shanahan (Hofstra), Chris Hartofilis (Duke), Jeff Sonke (North Carolina) and RJ Degenfelder (CW Post).

Glatzel leads the team in scoring with 29 goals and 14 assists (43 points), while Ulrich is second in the scoring column with 12 goals and 17 assists. Ulrich ranks second all-time at the school with 98 career assists and needs just three to become the school’s all-time leader in that category.
