Gillilan Notches ACC Swimmer of the Week Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — For the second time this season, freshman Coleen Gillilan has been awarded ACC Swimmer of the Week honors for her dominant performance, this installment coming in the double-dual meet with Iowa and Illinois on Jan. 11.

Gillilan competed in four events, three individual, and swept all heats. To kick off the meet, she swam 200 Medley Relay with the team of Carly Quast, Cailey Grunhard and Rachel Wittmer, turning in a time of 1:40.67.

From there, she thundered to a win in the 200 Fly (1:56.02), placing first of 13 competitors and posting a B-cut time. Gillilan quickly followed up with a first-place finish in the 100 Fly (52.33), also a B-cut performance. Finally, she closed the meet atop the podium of the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:58.55. Her third B-cut showing of the day, Gillilan upped her season total to 19 B-cut times.

Gillilan’s swims in the 200 Fly and 100 Fly were personal bests this season, and both rank as third fastest all-time in Irish history in their respective events.

Her second time marking the ACC Swimmer of the Week honor, she was also awarded the title for her showing at Purdue on Oct. 25, 2019.

Notre Dame will be back in the pool Friday, Jan. 17 at home vs. Northwestern. The Irish will then host the Shamrock Invitational Jan. 24-25, staying home the next weekend as well to face Ball State and Michigan State Feb. 1.
