NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Monday that Irish outfielder Eric Gilgenbach has been named Co-Player of the Week after recording three home runs and nine RBI in Notre Dame’s series win at No. 9 LSU this past weekend.
A junior from Rochester Hills, Michigan, Gilgenbach tallied four extra-base hits, including three home runs over the weekend. Through three games this season, Gilgenbach is hitting .385 (5-13) with five runs scored, nine RBI, two walks and a stolen base.
Most notably, Gilgenbach hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning on Sunday to put the Irish ahead of the Tigers for good. He followed that up with a grand slam in the ninth inning, capping off a seven-RBI showing in Notre Dame’s 11-3 victory.
The last time a Notre Dame player drove in seven runs was when Jake Shepski totaled nine RBI against Virginia Tech in 2016.
Gilgenbach’s three home runs equal his season total from 2017, when he appeared in 36 games and batted .333 with eight RBI.
The player of the week nod is the first of Gilgenbach’s career.
Gilgenbach shared the weekly honor with Miami’s Danny Reyes. ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel.
Gilgenbach and the Irish return to action on Thursday, when they host a doubleheader against Saint Louis (4 p.m. ET) and Incarnate Word (8 p.m. ET) in San Antonio, Texas, as part of the Alamo Irish Classic.
