Nov. 3, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A pair of University of Notre Dame women’s soccer players capped the regular season by earning Atlantic Coast Conference player of the week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Senior Irish forward Anna Maria Gilbertson was named the ACC co-Offensive Player of the Week, along with Virginia’s Makenzy Doniak, while junior goalkeeper Kaela Little was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week following No. 14/8 Notre Dame’s 3-0 victory over No. 5/4 Virginia Tech last Friday.

Gilbertson, who leads the Irish with 11 goals on the season, notched her second multi-goal game of the year Friday with a pair of goals against the Hokies. Her free kick goal in the 73rd minute gave the Irish a 2-0 lead just 19 seconds after sophomore Ginny McGowan’s eventual game-winner, while Gilbertson tallied her second with 39 seconds remaining in the game when she charged into the box to get a shot off the cross from Sabrina Flores.

Little registered her seventh solo shutout of the year in blanking Virginia Tech, which had averaged over two goals per game entering Friday’s contest. The junior tallied five saves and lowered her goals against average to 0.47 in the shutout effort.
