NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday that Notre Dame women’s lacrosse sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Giacolone has been named ACC Defensive Player of the Week following her performance against No. 20 Louisville on Saturday.

Giacolone, who hails from Manorville, New York, made nine saves while holding Louisville to a season-low seven goals in Notre Dame’s 9-7 win. She also scooped up two ground balls in the victory.

In eight games this season, Giacolone has gathered 62 saves and 18 ground balls. Named a preseason All-America honorable mention, Giacolone owns a .496 save percentage and has allowed an average of 8.14 goals, which ranks third in the ACC among goalies with at least 100 minutes played.

The honor marks the first of the season and the second of Giacolone’s career. Notre Dame has had three conference Players of the Week this season, including back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week honorees in senior midfielder Alex Dalton and Giacolone.

Giacolone and the Irish return to action against Ohio State at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Arlotta Stadium.

The game will be broadcast by the ACC Network Extra/WatchESPN. For a closer, behind-the-scenes look at the Irish women’s lacrosse program, follow @NDWomensLax on Twitter.
