Getting To Know ... Wide Receiver TJ Jones

Nov. 11, 2010

Wide receiver TJ Jones has established himself as one of the more reliable options in the Notre Dame passing attack in his first season on campus, as he has hauled in 22 catches for 287 yards on the season. He currently is tied for second on the team in receiving touchdowns this season with three, including one most recently against Navy. His father, Andre Jones, played defensive end for the Irish from 1987-91. GameDay’s Amy Stuhldreher gives Irish fans a chance to get to know TJ Jones.

Stuhldreher: What is your major and why does it interest you?
Jones: I’m in the First Year of Studies right now, so I’m undecided. I might do something with language and political science.

Stuhldreher: What is your favorite Coach Kelly saying?
Jones: “Are you kidding me?”

Stuhldreher: What attracted you to Notre Dame?
Jones: The tradition and being a legacy child. I like having people who I grew up with and people who played with my dad here because I can lean on them.

Stuhldreher: What one word would your teammates use to describe you?
Jones: They would say I’m goofy.

Stuhldreher: What do you see yourself doing after football at Notre Dame?
Jones: Maybe doing something FBI-related, maybe acting also.

Stuhldreher: What stadium would you like to play in but haven’t yet?
Jones: I can’t wait to play in The Coliseum at USC later on this year.

Stuhldreher: If the wide receivers had a theme song, what would it be?
Jones: “Teach Me How to Dougie” by the California Swag District.

Stuhldreher: If you had a sports drink named after you, what would it be?
Jones: Dasher-X.

Stuhldreher: What song always gets you ready to take the field?
Jones: “Call Me Dougie” by the New Boyz and Chris Brown

Stuhldreher: If you could change one thing about Notre Dame, what would it be?
Jones: I would like to change/get rid of the humid summers.

Stuhldreher: If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need to have with you?
Jones: A cell phone, lots of sushi and some sweet tea from Georgia.

Stuhldreher: What is your ring tone right now?
Jones: “Do the John Wall” by Troop 41.

Stuhldreher: What song on your Ipod would surprise people?
Jones: I’ve got two: “There’s Got to be More to Life” by Stacie Orrico and “Linger” by The Cranberries.

Stuhldreher: Other than the NFL, what is your dream job?
Jones: I would like to work with Shamu at SeaWorld.

Stuhldreher: North or South Dining Hall?
Jones: I’d say South Dining Hall. It’s easier to get around.

Stuhldreher: What is your favorite memory with your teammates?
Jones: The Friday night movie nights that we have in my hotel room is something I’ll remember.

Stuhldreher: What is the hardest part of being a student athlete?
Jones: It would have to be the time management.

Stuhldreher: Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
Jones: No, I really don’t have any.

Stuhldreher: If you could have dinner with any three people dead or alive, who would it be?
Jones: Barack Obama, Denzel Washington and P-Diddy.

Stuhldreher: If you could trade places with Coach Kelly, what would you do?
Jones: I would have a different car for every day of the week.
