Getting To Know … Wide Receiver Robby Toma No. 19 * 5-9 * 175 * So. – Laie, Hawaii/Punahou
Sophomore wide receiver Robby Toma will enter his second season with the Irish looking to record time as one of Notre Dame’s top options at slot receiver. During the offseason, the Laie, Hawaii native caught the eye of the Irish coaching staff in the new spread offense. As a freshman, Toma got on the field in three games, catching three passes for 21 yards. He also dropped back once for the Irish in kick return duty against the Washington State Cougars, netting an 11-yard return. GameDay’s Aaron Horvath gives Irish fans a chance to get to know Robby Toma.
Horvath: What is your favorite place on campus?
Toma: I like to go to Reckers; they have some good smoothies there.
Horvath: What is your favorite Coach Kelly saying?
Toma: There was a time in practice that we messed up and he said, “You better not tell anybody about this.”
Horvath: If the Irish wide receiver’s had a theme song, what would it be?
Toma: “Teach Me How To Jerk” by Audio Push.
Horvath: What memories do you have of Notre Dame growing up?
Toma: My first football movie I ever watched was Rudy.
Horvath: If Coach Kelly wasn’t coaching, what would he be doing for a living?
Toma: I think Coach Kelly would be a Pilot. I could see him being a pilot.
Horvath: If you could have any superpower, what would you want to have?
Toma: I would want blazing speed, to be fast enough to be able to run across the water to get back home whenever I wanted to.
Horvath: What song on your iPod would surprise people?
Toma: “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper.
Horvath: If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play you in the lead role?
Toma: I would want Will Ferrell to play me. You would need to shrink him though.
Horvath: What TV show do you never miss?
Toma: I watch Forensic Files before I go to bed every night.
Horvath: What teammate has the best nickname and what is it?
Toma: My favorite nickname is Zack Martin’s; his nickname is “The Undertaker.”
Horvath: Where would you go in history if you had a time machine?
Toma: I would be on Jack Sparrow’s ship, or be on a pirate ship looking for the Black Pearl.
Horvath: What was your best Halloween costume growing up?
Toma: I was a crab once on Halloween. It was awful.
Horvath: Who is your favorite professor on campus?
Toma: I enjoyed Professor McKenna’s Introduction to Anthropology class.
Horvath: Who has been most influential on your life?
Toma: My parents have been the most influential to me.
