Punter Ben Turk

After splitting time as Notre Dame’s punter in his freshman season, sophomore Ben Turk has become the starting punter for the Irish in 2010. He set a career high for punts in a contest against Boston College two weeks ago, booting the ball eight times for 313 yards, including a long of 53 yards and three downed inside the 20 yard line. GameDay’s Kelly Taylor gives Irish fans a chance to get to know Ben Turk.
Taylor: What is your major and why does it interest you?
Turk: I’m an industrial design major because I’ve always enjoyed drawing.
Taylor: What is your favorite place on campus?
Turk: I would say Reckers.
Taylor: What is the toughest stadium to play in?
Turk: Michigan Stadium; they have a lot of fans there to watch you.
Taylor: What is one thing you want to happen before you leave Notre Dame?
Turk: I want to work on being the best punter in the country.
Taylor: What TV show do you never miss?
Turk: I always watch Seinfeld.
Taylor: What do you miss most about home?
Turk: The beach is what I miss the most.
Taylor: Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
Turk: My dad because he’s always been there for me.
Taylor: Who is the best joker on the team?
Turk: I would say the goofiest player is Jonas Gray.
Taylor: What is your favorite class you have taken so far?
Turk: I think it would be a standard drawing class.
Taylor: What is your favorite thing about the game?
Turk: Winning is the best thing about the game to me.
Taylor: Where is your favorite place to go on vacation?
Turk: I just like to go home to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Taylor: What is your craziest ambition?
Turk: I’ve actually never been scuba diving so I would like to do that.
Taylor: North or South Dining Hall?
Turk: It has to be South Dining Hall.
Taylor: If you weren’t playing football, what sport would you be playing?
Turk: I would play basketball.
Taylor: What is your favorite video game?
Turk: NHL Hockey and Fight Night are probably my two favorites.
Taylor: How old were you when you started playing football?
Turk: I started playing in eighth grade.
Taylor: What are you doing when you’re not playing football?
Turk: I like working out and playing video games.
Taylor: What would your ideal day off consist of?
Turk: I would wake up at 11 a.m. go to the beach and sit there until the sun goes down.
