Getting To Know
Nick Tausch
No. 40 * 6-0 * 190 * So. – Plano, Texas/Jesuit

Sophomore kicker Nick Tausch entered the 2010 season with the Irish with plenty of experience after his freshman campaign in which he converted a Notre Dame record 14 consecutive field goals. He also set a school record for the most field goals made in a game without a miss when he converted all five of his field goal attempts against Washington. Along with covering field goal duty for the Irish, he also averaged 61.8 yards per kickoff in split duty. GameDay’s Aaron Horvath gives Irish fans a chance to get to know Nick Tausch.

Horvath: What major are you pursuing at Notre Dame?
Tausch: I’m majoring in sociology. I find it interesting. I took a sociology class my freshman year over the summer, which made me want to learn more on the topic.

Horvath: What is your favorite place on campus?
Tausch: The Grotto; it’s a pretty cool scene. It’s calming and really neat.

Horvath: What song do you use to get pumped up before a game?
Tausch: I listen to country music way before the game to try to calm myself down. As the game gets closer I listen to some hip-hop music.

Horvath: What TV show do you never miss?
Tausch: I never miss Two and a Half Men.

Horvath: When you were younger, what were you always getting in trouble for?
Tausch: Not really anything specific; I got in trouble for a lot of different things.

Horvath: If you could be a candy, what would you be and why?
Tausch: I would definitely be a Snickers bar, mainly because they are good.

Horvath: If Hollywood made a movie about you, who would you like to see play you in a lead role?
Tausch: I would want Nigel Gruff, the kicker from “The Replacements” to play me.

Horvath: If you could have a dream foursome to play golf with you, who would you take with you?
Tausch: I would take Adam Vinatieri (Indianapolis Colts kicker), Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Horvath: If you could have any superpower, what would you want?
Tausch: I would want to be invisible because it would be cool.

Horvath: If you could take three things on a deserted island, what would you take?
Tausch: I would take a TV, my iPod and a football.

Horvath: If you had a time machine to go back in history, where would you go?
Tausch: I would go back to when I was younger and played soccer.

Horvath: If there were an energy drink named after you, what would it be called?
Tausch: “Tausch.0.” It gives you an extra boost.

Horvath: If Coach Kelly weren’t coaching, what would he be doing for a living?
Tausch: He would be a referee; he would be good because he doesn’t miss much.

Horvath: Do you have any fears that no one knows about?
Tausch: I don’t like snakes and spiders; they are kind of creepy.

Horvath: What is your first memory of Notre Dame?
Tausch: My first memory was when we saw a replay of the Notre Dame/Texas Cotton Bowl game on TV. My dad was in his freshman year at Texas and he played Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. We saw the replay on TV, and of course, Notre Dame won.

Horvath: If you could trade places with anyone for a day, whom would you trade with?
Tausch: It would be cool to be a quarterback for a day. I’d probably say Tony Romo, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.

Horvath: Who has been the most influential on your life?
Tausch: My parents. They always have pushed me to be the best in everything.

Horvath: What is the toughest stadium to play in?
Tausch: Based off of last year, the Big House at Michigan. It is a pretty tough place to play.
