BALANIS RETURNS TO HIS ALMA MATER:

Notre Dame associate head coach Rod Balanis returns to his alma mater on Saturday when the Irish face Georgia Tech in McCamish Pavilion. Balanis played for former Georgia Tech head coach Bobby Cremins from 1990-94, making four appearances in the NCAA tournament, two Sweet 16 berths and a spot in the 1990 Final Four.

Balanis was a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and graduated with honors from Georgia Tech with a management degree and has been a member of the Irish coaching staff since Mike Brey’s arrival on campus for the 2000-01 season.

FOUR FOR 14:

Notre Dame has four players averaging at least 14.0 points-per-game in 2016-17 – Bonzie Colson (15.6), Steve Vasturia (14.9), V.J. Beachem (14.1) and Matt Farrell (14.0). If those averages maintain over 14.0, it would be the first time since the 2001-02 season that the Irish will finish the season with four players averaging 14.0 points or better per game.

In 2001-02, current Irish assistant coach Ryan Humphrey averaged a team-high 18.9 ppg, followed by Chris Thomas (15.6), David Graves (14.4) and Matt Carroll (14.1).

ACC WINS – FIRST FOUR YEARS IN LEAGUE:

Notre Dame has won 37 games over the past four years as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the most of any team added to the original conference membership from 1952.

The Irish have 37 victories, followed by Syracuse (36), Florida State (34), Boston College (34) and Louisville has claimed 29 victories in their first three years as a member of the ACC.

BEACHEM CLOSING IN ON 1,000 POINTS:

Senior forward V.J. Beachem needs 10 more points this season to reach 1,000 in his career. He would join classmate Steve Vasturia in the 1,000-point club (Vasturia reached the mark against Northwestern earlier this season) and would become the 60th Notre Dame player to score 1,000 points in a career.

Junior Bonzie Colson could become the third member to reach 1,000 career points this season. Colson is currently at 907 career points.

VASTURIA CAREER NUMBERS:

Senior Steve Vasturia continues to climb the career charts – both at Notre Dame and in the ACC.

As of Jan. 27, 2017, Vasturia is seventh on the list of active career scorers in the ACC play with 1,240 points and fourth in career assists with 280.

On the Notre Dame career charts, Vasturia currently ranks second in FT% (.848), fourth in consecutive starts (101), 12th in 3FG attempted (450), 17th in 3FG% (.382), 19th in assists (280), 20th in steals (112) and 35th in scoring (1,240).
