Irish Name New Strength and Conditioning Coordinator

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Mickey Marotti, strength and conditioning coach the last eight seasons at the University of Cincinnati, has been named the strength and conditioning coordinator for the University of Notre Dame athletic program.

In that role, he is responsible for the total development of sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for all 26 varsity sports at Notre Dame.

Marotti replaces Kirk Woolfolk, who resigned in November following three years in that position.

The 33-year-old Marotti at Cincinnati coordinated the strength and conditioning program for 20 varsity sports. He also worked in the areas of diet analysis and planning and assisted in student-athlete rehabilitation from injuries.

He previously spent two years beginning in 1988 as assistant strength coach at West Virginia. Marotti spent 1987-88 as a graduate assistant strength coach at Ohio State, while at the same time serving as head strength coach at Grove City High School in Grove City, Ohio.

A speaker at numerous clinics and symposiums, he has published a number of articles in the strength and conditioning area and developed sports performance clinics for junior high and high school student-athletes.

The Ambridge, Pa., native earned four letters in football as a fullback at West Liberty State, serving as a team tri-captain in 1986 and winning first-team NAIA Academic All-America honors in 1987.

Born December 24, 1964, he earned his bachelor of science degree in exercise physiology from West Liberty State in 1987, a master of arts in strength training and athletic conditioning from Ohio State in 1988 and a master of science in sports medicine from West Virginia in 1990.
