Brian Powell joined the University of Notre Dame Athletics Advancement team after transferring from the University’s main Development Offices in 2014. Within Athletics Advancement, Powell manages the day-to-day operations of the department and its collaboration with staff in the areas of annual giving, marketing, stewardship, events, and data. He also works with field fundraisers at Notre Dame to identify, cultivate, and solicit leadership level athletics gifts.

Prior to joining the Notre Dame in September 2013, Powell was Director of the Annual Fund for James Madison University Athletics. His responsibilities at JMU included directing all activities related to the athletics annual fund, which achieved record donations and membership levels during those two years. He was promoted to director after having served as assistant director the previous two years. As an assistant director he directed a new membership campaign which grew the donor base by over 1,300 members.

Powell also served as Development Coordinator at Cal State Bakersfield and as an intern for the Cardinal Athletic Fund at the University of Louisville.

In 2008, Powell received his Masters in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Georgetown College, where he was named captain of the baseball team and received the Wall Street Journal Award for Economics.

In his free time, Powell enjoys being outdoors, golfing, reading and traveling to see family. Powell’s wife, Katie, is the Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Notre Dame. They had their first child, Cooper, in December 2014.
