Dec. 14, 1999

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Thirty-one Notre Dame student-athletes have been selected for the Academic Honors Program for Student-Athletes of the University of Notre Dame Athletic Department.

Sixteen of the student-athletes are new to the program for 1999-2000, while 15 others also were part of the program a year ago.

The group held its 1999-2000 kickoff dinner Nov. 30 in the Notre Dame Stadium press box, with the president of the University, Rev. Edward A. Malloy, C.S.C., provost Nathan Hatch, executive vice-president Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C., and athletic director Michael A. Wadsworth all in attendance.

The Academic Honors Program, in its third year, pairs top student-athletes who excel at the highest level in both athletics and academics with University faculty member mentors within the student-athletes’ academic areas of interest.

The program identifies those high achievers and offers assistance in order that the students can achieve their fullest potential while attending the University. Student-athletes are encouraged to have ongoing contact with their faculty mentors to assist in reaching their academic and career goals.

Participants in the Academic Honors Program for 1999-2000 are:
