NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Alan Wasielewski has been named an assistant sports information director at the University of Notre Dame.

Wasielewski, a publicity assistant in the department since 2000, serves as the day-to-day contact for eight varsity sports. He works closely with the men’s and women’s cross country, softball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s track and field and volleyball teams.

A 2000 University of Notre Dame graduate, Wasielewski has been working in the sports information office for four seasons as a student assistant and intern. A South Bend, Ind., native, Wasielewski graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1991 and enlisted in the United States Navy in July of that same year.

A cryptologic technician for the U.S. Navy and National Security Agency, Wasielewski served four years in the service — including two years at the Naval Security Group Activity Hanza in Okinawa, Japan.

Leaving active duty in December of 1995 as a third-class petty officer, Wasielewski enrolled at Holy Cross College before transferring to Notre Dame to earn an American studies degree.
