Bozzelli Receives Sears’ Directors’ Cup Postgraduate Scholarship
Former Irish cheerleader chosen from 101 nominees.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Matthew Bozzelli, a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a two-year member of the Irish cheerleading squad, is one of 16 recipients for the 1998-99 Sears’ Directors’ Cup Postgraduate Scholarship presented by National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Bozzelli, chosen from 101 nominees from NCAA Division I, II and III and the NAIA, will receive a $5,000 grant to be used toward postgraduate studies. He will receive his award at NACDA’s 34th annual Convention, June 13-16. The ceremony will occur at the NACDA Scholarship Awards Luncheon, presented by Sears, on Tuesday, June 15.
Bozzelli, who received his undergraduate degree in finance and business economics in three years from the College of Business Administration, will attend Notre Dame Law School beginning in the fall of ’99. A Dean’s List student, he had a 3.69 grade point average within his major and graduated with a 3.37 grade index overall.
He served as the varsity leprechaun with primary responsibilities of cheering at football and men’s basketball games. In addition, he made numerous appearances at charitable events.
Bozzelli was the recipient of a number of awards while at Notre Dame. In 1997, he received the Notre Dame Law School, Kresge Library Letter of Commendation which is awarded for outstanding commitment, service and initiative and performance in the accounting division. He also was one of several to be receive the Notre Dame Academic/Athletic Excellence Award. Bozzelli was the recipient during the past two years of the Dick Vitale Family Spirit and Peter Walsh McCarthy Memorial scholarships.
While attending school, he volunteered at the South Bend Homeless Shelter and assisted the Childhood Cancer Association (CURE). Bozzelli also served as a research assistant for a Notre Dame finance professor and was a legal intern for a judge in South Bend.
