SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Karina Gaskins was named an All-American by three different publications Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Gaskins was a second team All-American honoree by Softball America and D1Softball.com, and was a third team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Gaskins becomes the first third team All-American by NFCA for the Irish since 2016. A year ago, graduate student Abby Sweet earned second team honors as an outfielder.
This season, Gaskins led the ACC with a .428 batting average and 61 RBI. She hit 13 home runs, 12 doubles and scored 29 times, playing in all 52 games for the Fighting Irish this season. She also broke Abby Sweet’s 2021 school record by earning a .555 on-base percentage. Gaskins ranked in the top 20 nationally in average, on-base percentage, RBI per game and walks per game.
