Garrett Regan Named CCHA Offensive Player Of The Week

Nov. 10, 2008

Farmington Hills, Mich. – The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that Notre Dame senior left wing Garrett Regan (Hastings, Minn.) has been selected as the CCHA’s offensive player of the week for the week ending Nov. 9.

Regan helped Notre Dame extend its road-winning streak to four games as he scored three goals in Notre Dame wins at Boston College (4-1) and Providence College (4-1) on Nov. 7 and 8 respectively.

In the win over second-ranked Boston College at Kelley Rink on Friday night, Regan got the Irish offense started when he beat the Eagles’ defense at the blue line for a breakaway on BC goaltender John Muse. Regan was able to pull the goaltender down and flip the puck under the cross bar at 4:40 of the first period to give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the season for Regan and snapped a 21-game goal-less drought that went back to Feb. 15 of last season. He had three shots on goal in the game and was even for the night.

On Saturday night at Providence College’s Schneider Arena, Regan would score the first two goals of the game for the Irish on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Friars. The two-goal game was the fifth multiple-goal game of Regan’s career.

Regan’s first goal came at 17:12 of the first period when he jammed the rebound of a shot from Justin White (Sr., Traverse City, Mich.) past goaltender Justin Gates to give the Irish a 1-0 lead.

His second goal, the eventual game winner, came at 7:36 of the second period, when he fired the rebound of a Ryan Guentzel (So., Woodbury, Minn.) inside the left post past Gates to make it 2-0. The goal was Regan’s second of the night and third of the season as the Irish would go on to a 4-1 victory.

For the season, Regan now has three goals in the first nine games of the season for Notre Dame. His line, along with White (three assists) and Guentzel (two assists) combined for eight points (3g, 5a) in the weekend sweep.

Regan and his teammates return to action at the Joyce Center this weekend as the Irish play five of their next six games. The foe this weekend is Lake Superior State University with the teams meeting on Friday, Nov. 14 (7:35 p.m.) and again on Saturday, Nov. 15 (7:05 p.m.)

Notre Dame comes into the series ranked ninth in both the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com/CBS College Sports polls. The Irish are 6-3-0 with a 2-2-0-0 record in the conference. The Lakers are 3-3-2 overall and 3-2-1-0 in CCHA action.
