ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Notre Dame baseball team’s game on Sunday night versus 7th-ranked Rice was halted and called off due to rain and deteriorating field conditions at Dell Diamond. The game will not be made up.

Rice held a 4-0 lead and was about to bat in the bottom of the 3rd when the game was stopped. Sophomore righthander Jeff Samardzija was readying for his third inning on the mound while Notre Dame’s lineup was the same as in Saturday’s game vs. Texas A&M (the Gametracker link includes the stats from the first two-and-a-half innings, with those stats now being wiped from the season totals).

Notre Dame now hopes for improved weather conditions on Monday, when the Irish are slated to face Texas State at Dell Diamond. Notre Dame then will head to San Antonio to serve as the host team for the annual Alamo City Irish Baseball Classic.

Notre Dame will attempt to schedule a makeup game at some point this season and that information will be relased on und.com.
