NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Recent Irish women’s golf signee, Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) was honored with the 2010 Jerry Cole Sportsmanship Award Sunday night at the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) Rolex Junior All-American awards banquet.

The award recognizes juniors who excel on the course, in the classroom and exhibit sportsmanship like behavior such as, integrity in under all circumstances.

Armstrong receives the honor after volunteering with the Kids Golf Foundation of Illinois and the AJGA’s Leadership Links program. It was through her hard work within the Leadership Links that Armstrong raised $5,000 for the Kids Golf Foundation of Illinois.

In addition to Armstrong’s volunteer work, her integrity was tested at the 2009 AJGA Notre Dame Junior Open when she realized she signed for a lower score than she earned after accepting the champion’s trophy. It wasn’t until the following morning that she caught her mistake and immediately notified the director of the tournament and surrendered her title.

Armstrong will join the roster as a two-time Hewlett Packard Scholastic Junior All-American and is ranked fourth of 707 students in her class at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
