Notre Dame, Ind. – The Funeral Mass for former University of Notre Dame football coach Dan Devine will be held on Friday, May 17 beginning at 10:00 a.m. (PST) at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Phoenix, Ariz. Devine, who coached at Notre Dame from 1975-80, died on May 9 at the age of 77 at his home in suburban Phoenix (Ahwatukee), following a year-long illness.

The 11:30 a.m. Mass at the Notre Dame Basilica will be dedicated as a memorial tribute to Devine on May 17 to coincide with the funeral mass in Phoenix. Father Paul Doyle will officiate the Mass. A solo bagpipe tribute by Alex Fisher of South Bend will immediately follow the Mass.

An encore solo bagpipe tribute in honor of Devine will be held at the College Football Hall of Fame in downtown South Bend following the Mass at Notre Dame as part of the Hall’s lobby display honoring Devine as an inductee. Devine was elected into the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

At the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., where Devine coached from 1958-70, the Civil War “Chimes of Honor” will be sounded at the appointed time honoring the late coach.
