NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame Athletic Department announced tonight that it will no longer maintain the Notre Dame Quarterback Club, a local, 1,200-member, fan-support organization that has existed since 1971.

The Athletic Department does expect to continue the traditional luncheons held at the Joyce Center on Fridays before home football games, with details as to ticket availability and luncheon format yet to be determined. Organization of those luncheons had been the primary function of the Quarterback Club.

The decision was communicated to the Quarterback Club membership this evening at its Board of Directors meeting.

The decision was made by the University because membership dues put the organization in the category of a booster club as far as the NCAA definition. All dues-paying members are deemed to be representatives of the University.
