Buck and Tefft were upended Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Semifinals

Fresno State Too Much For No. 3 Ranked Irish In NCAA Semifinals

May 25, 2008

Notre Dame, Ind. – The No. 3 ranked team of Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft were unable to keep their winning streak alive Sunday evening. The duo was upended by the team of Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe from Fresno State.

As has been the case for all of the matches to date, the Irish were unable to get going out of the gates. They were only able to capture one game in the first set as they saw themselves drop one set behind, 6-1.

Unfortunately, Fresno State would not let Buck and Tefft get back into the match easily. The Irish and Bulldogs would battle in the second set to a 5-5 standstill. The Irish, unable to ever really grab control of the match, would then see themselves suffer a break of serve to fall behind 6-5. The Bulldogs would then successfully hold their own serve to secure the second set and wrap up the semifinal match as well (6-1, 7-5).

Buck and Tefft’s appearance in the semifinals does mark the furthest that any Notre Dame duo has reached in the programs history. The semifinal appearance was a postscript to their ITA Indoors championship earlier in the season.
