Freeman and Castedo Fall at NCAA Doubles Championship

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –  The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis tandem of Page Freeman and Maria Olivia Castedo earned a postseason spot at the NCAA Doubles Championship played at the University of Illinois this afternoon. The Fighting Irish fell 6-3, 6-3 to Anna Ross and Holly Staff of Vanderbilt.

The Irish and Commodores held serve through the first four sets before Vanderbilt took deuce point to go up 3-2. The Irish would keep the margin at one with a winner to make it 4-3 before Vanderbilt rattled off three-straight points to take the set.

In the second set, Vanderbilt raced out to a 3-0 lead. The Irish bounced back and cut the deficit to 3-2. After dropping two games, Freeman and Castedo saved match point and trailed 5-3 before falling and dropping the set 6-3.
