Four Women Highlight Spartan Invitational For Irish

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Four women represented the Irish at the annual Spartan Invitational this weekend on the campus of Michigan State University. As the sun shined over Ralph Young Field, Notre Dame saw three top-10 finishes and a collegiate outdoor debut.

Meghan Scott competed in her first outdoor race, winning the women’s 5K event in 17:31.92 for a personal best. 

Racing for the first time since the Meyo Invitational during the indoor season, senior Emily Franz took third in the 800m run with a time of 2:15.75. Her teammate, Laura Devito, raced in the following heat, clocking in a time of 2:18.67 and seventh overall.

Stephanie Knight also competed on Saturday, clocking in a finish of 4:48.52 in the 1500m run for her first outing in nearly a year.

The team heads to Louisville, Kentucky for the Louisville Invitational April 12-13. Last season both the men’s and women’s teams finished fourth at the annual meet, which included two first place finishes by current Irish team members.

Jess Harris claimed the top prize in the 1500m run while Logan Kusky took the infield with a first place finish in the hammer throw.
