Four Irish Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Mabrey, Miles, Citron, Dodson all honored

GREENSBORO, N.C. The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2021-22 Women’s Basketball All-ACC Academic Team on Tuesday. The team features 43 student-athletes, with at least one from each of the ACC’s 15 programs. With that said, for the second consecutive year, Notre Dame landed a program best four student-athletes on the list: Dara Mabrey, Olivia Miles, Sonia Citron and Maya Dodson.

Mabrey continues to excel both on and off the court, being picked for the All-ACC Academic Team all four years she’s been in college. Thus, Mabrey has won the award twice while at Notre Dame, which ties the program record.

Mabrey averaged 10.4 points during the season but led the Irish in scoring during the NCAA Tournament, where she averaged 18.7 ppg. Mabrey’s 13 three-pointers tied for the second most in the tournament and just one behind South Carolina’s Destanni Henderson.

Miles, who was a Nancy Lieberman Award Top-5 finalist, finished second in the nation in assists per game. In fact, her 7.4 apg ranked fourth all-time in program history. Miles led the Irish in scoring (13.7 ppg) and nearly averaged a triple-double during the NCAA Tournament: 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.7 assists.

Miles also produced nine double-doubles on the year, two of which were triple-doubles. Only Notre Dame great Jackie Young had previously produced two triple-doubles in the same year. Furthermore, Miles was the first freshman in the women’s tournament to produce a triple-double in the Big Dance.

Then there was Citron, the 2022 ACC Rookie of the Year. Citron did it all for Coach Ivey, averaging 11.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals. The New York native finished strong down the stretch, scoring in double figures in 15 of her last 18 games. In addition, she averaged 14.0 points on 50.0 percent shooting in the tournament.

Last, but not least, there was Dodson, who was just drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in the third round of the 2022 WNBA Draft. Dodson averaged 12.6 points and a team best 7.3 rebounds. In addition, her 2.8 blocks per game ranked eighth in the nation, while her 3.5 offensive boards per game led all players in the ACC.

Note, the minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
