MACOYA, Trinidad – Kevin Richards, a 2004 Notre Dame graduate and former standout on the Fighting Irish soccer team, helped Bermuda to a 2-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday (June 14) in a qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup. Richards played the entire 90 minutes in the contest.

The victory over Trinidad and Tobago, a 2006 World Cup participant, was a huge triumph for Bermuda in stage two of World Cup qualifying for The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCAFAF) region. Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago will square off once again on June 22 in Hamilton, Bermuda. A win or tie for the Bermudians will push them along into the next phase of qualifying.

Richards, who hails from Warwick, Bermuda, played for the Fighting Irish from 2000-03. The defender was an instrumental part in Notre Dame capturing the 2003 BIG EAST tournament title as he scored the winning goal in the 2-0 victory against St. John’s. For his career, Richards played in 79 games, including 64 starts, and tallied 13 points on two goals and nine assists. Richards was a third-team all-BIG EAST selection as a senior.
