NOTRE DAME, Ind. –

CAPTAINS NAMED – Irish head coach Bob Davie opted to wait to name the captains for the 2000 season until summer. It is tradition to name the captains at the annual spring scrimmage. Instead, he discussed how the true captains would step forward to lead the team in the summer. Linebacker Anthony Denman, defensive end Grant Irons, tight ends Dan O’Leary and Jabari Holloway all earned the honor. The four have stepped forward to guide the team in the summer workouts and off the field as well.

AMBRON LEAVES – Sophomore Neil Ambron decided to pursue another path according to sources. The offensive tackle informed the coaches that he is no longer interested in pursuing football. Ambron reportedly returned to his home state of Colorado to pursue his degree. Many projected Ambron to backup Kurt Vollers and Jordan Black this season. He is the second player to leave this summer. Cornerback Albert Poree decided to transfer to Georgia Tech.

FRESHMAN INJURED – Highly touted incoming freshman Greg Pauly suffered a knee injury on July 9, while practicing for Wisconsin’s North-South Shrine game. The defensive lineman jammed his left knee and sat out the game. He is expected to have an MRI sometime this week.
