NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame coaching squad suffered another blow on Monday.

Assistant coach Jerry Rosburg announced his departure from the University.

Rosburg accepted a job offer from Butch Davis and the Cleveland Browns. He will serve as the special teams coach for the Browns.

At Notre Dame, Rosburg’s duties included not only special teams but work with the cornerbacks as well. It is his work with the special teams, which earned the Notre Dame coaching staff particular attention.

Rosburg’s departure is yet another change which Irish head coach Bob Davie is forced to deal with. Receivers coach Urban Meyer accepted the head coaching position at Bowling Green prior to the Fiesta Bowl. Meyer took with him graduate assistant Dan Mullin.

Just after the Fiesta Bowl, assistant coach Lou West accepted the position of defensive coordinator at Toledo. The University decided the position of Coordinator of Football Operations was no longer needed and so Bob Chmiel is no longer with the coaching staff.

Nick Carparelli now accepts a large number of Chmiel’s former duties as Football Administrator.

INVITATIONS EXTENDED

Davie extended nine invitations to seniors to apply for a fifth-year.

The list of nine includes Kurt Vollers, John Teasdale, Casey Robin, J.W. Jordan, Grant Irons, Andy Wisne, Justin Smith, Ron Israel and Jason Murray.

Just because Davie extends an invitation to the seniors does not necessarily mean the University will grant them a fifth-year. The University has to make a ruling on the applications, which usually takes place in March.

SPRING SCHEDULE

Football spring practices will begin on March 27. There will be 15 practices held, ending with the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage on April 28.
