NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Bill Reagan, offensive coordinator the last five seasons at Ashland (Ohio) University and previously head football coach for 10 years at St. Joseph’s (Ind.) College, has been named football administrator at the University of Notre Dame.

Reagan replaces Nick Carparelli, Jr., who resigned earlier this month to accept a position as director of operations for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. Reagan assists in managing the administrative aspects of recruiting and is in charge of other assigned football operations. He serves as the liaison for the football office to a number of administrative offices in the athletic department and on campus.

In addition to serving as offensive coordinator at Ashland the last five years, he also coached the Eagle quarterbacks and receivers — and for four seasons (1995-98) worked as the Ashland strength coach and compliance officer.

He helped Ashland to the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference co-championship in 1997 — as well as an NCAA Division II playoff berth that same season (lost in first round to Slippery Rock). He helped the Eagles to league runnerup honors in ’98 and ’99 and saw the ’97 Ashland team rank as high as 12th in the national poll, as well as among the national leaders in total offense.

Reagan spent 13 years overall at St. Joseph’s, the first three (1982-84) as defensive coordinator and director of intramural athletics and the last 10 (1985-94) as head football coach and offensive coordinator. His St. Joseph’s teams claimed Heartland Conference runnerup honors in ’88 and ’89 and ranked among the national leaders in total offense from ’86 through ’89. He coached the top three career rushers at St. Joseph’s as well as a handful of the top quarterbacks and receivers in Puma history — plus three Academic All-Americans.

At St. Joseph’s, he was a member of a charter group of coaches that helped create the MIFC, was influential in St. Joseph’s increasing its full scholarship commitment from 22 to 35 — and served on the American Football Coaches Association All-America selection committee.

Originally from Lorain, Ohio, Reagan spent one year coaching and teaching at Shawsheen Technical High School in Billerica, Mass., then moved to Libbey High School in Toledo, Ohio, where he was an assistant football coach and head freshman basketball coach. He taught health and physical education in the Toledo (Ohio) Public School system from 1976-82 and was an assistant football coach at Bowsher High School in Toledo in ’81.

Reagan earned his undergraduate degree from St. Joseph’s in 1974 in health and physical education. He received a master’s degree in physical education and health from Eastern Michigan in 1980.

Born Feb. 21, 1952, he and his wife Elizabeth are parents of three children — Courtney (a ’98 Saint Mary’s College graduate), Kevin (a football player at Butler University) and Patrick. Bill is the brother of Notre Dame associate vice president for University relations and executive director of development Dan Reagan.
