NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame football team formally got its 2007 season underway on Monday with the program’s annual Media Day activities at the Guglielmino Athletics Complex on the Notre Dame campus. Head coach Charlie Weis spent nearly an hour addressing the media on a variety of topics, before the Irish assistant coaching staff and a select group of players took their turn in front of the microphones.

Notre Dame returns 30 monogram winners and 10 starters (including its punter and long snapper) from last year’s club that went 10-3 and advanced to its second consecutive Bowl Championship Series game (the Allstate Sugar Bowl). In addition, the Irish will have the benefit of a consensus top-10 recruiting class that makes this year’s roster one of the deepest and most athletic in recent memory. Notre Dame will open its 2007 season on Sept. 1 when it plays host to Georgia Tech at Notre Dame Stadium, with the 2:30 p.m. (ET) contest to be televised nationally by NBC.
