Five Selected for All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The University of Notre Dame softball team had five players earn All-ACC Academic honors for their performance on the field and in the classroom during the 2022 season. Shannon Becker, Emma Clark, Alexis Holloway, Abby Sweet and Payton Tidd earned the academic recognition for the Fighting Irish this season. This is the first honor for Becker and Tidd, while Clark, Holloway and Sweet earned their third All-ACC Academic honors.

Becker, a freshman political science major, appeared in 27 games in the circle, making 12 starts. She led the team with a 1.71 ERA in 90.0 innings, striking out 73 hitters. She earned 10 wins and four saves and threw six complete games in her rookie season.

Clark, a senior accountancy major, started all 52 games in right field. The NFCA All-Region honoree hit for a .362 average and led the team with 67 hits. She added eight doubles, two triples and stole 12 bases, drove in 22 and scored 47 runs.

Holloway, a graduate student, earned her management degree in her final season. Holloway tied for the team lead with 15 wins, going 15-3 on the season with a save. She threw in 120 innings, striking out a team-best 98 hitters and limited opponents to a .212 average against. She appeared in 31 games and made a team-best 21 starts.

Sweet, the 2021 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, had another highly successful season in 2022. The graduate outfielder hit for a .362 average playing in all 52 games in center field. She led the team with 55 runs scored while hitting 11 doubles, two triples and was second on the team with six home runs and was named Second Team All-ACC.

Tidd, a second team All-ACC honoree, completed her undergraduate degree in psychology during the 2022 season. Tidd appeared in the circle more than any other member of the Irish pitching staff. The senior threw in 32 games, making 19 starts. She earned a 15-5 overall record and picked up two saves. She threw a total of 130.2 innings, striking out 97 hitters and limited opponents to a .219 average against.
