Five Irish Named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – As announced by Inside Lacrosse on Tuesday (Jan. 18) Kasey Choma, Madison Ahern, Maddie Howe, Jackie Wolak, and Bridget Deehan were named to the 2022 Preseason All-American Team.

Choma collects a preseason honor for the second time in the 2022 season. She was named to the second Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Team. 

Ahern, Howe, Wolak and Deehan were all named to the honorable mention squad for Inside Lacrosse.

In the 2021 season, Choma racked up 45 goals, and 50 points. She netted a goal in 17 of 18 contests, including a career-best six goals vs. Virginia Tech (April 21), and totaled eight hat tricks, and scored at least five goals in three games. She also accumulated 18 ground balls, and 17 draw controls. Choma picked up nine awards throughout the season including being named 2021 IWLCA Second Team All-American, 2021 Inside Lacrosse Second Team All-American, and 2021 Inside Lacrosse Preseason Third Team All-American.

Ahern scored 32 goals in the 2021 season with 17 assists. She picked up 13 ground balls, and caused five turnovers. She scored in 16 of 17 games played, including 11 multi-goal outings and four hat tricks. She was named a 2021 Inside Lacrosse Preseason Second Team All-American, and to the 2021 All-ACC Second Team. She racked up a total of four awards throughout her sophomore campaign.

Howe is Notre Dame’s active leader with 148 goals and 198 points in 62 career games. A 2021 Preseason All-ACC honoree, Howe scored at least three goals in six outings last season. Howe netted the game-winning goal in a thrilling 17-16 win over Duke in the ACC Quarterfinals (April 28) in a campaign that earned her second on the team with 33 goals and fourth in points with 46. Howe earned her second straight conference honor in 2021 being named to the All-ACC Second Team (First Team – 2019). 

Wolak currently leads the Irish with 51 points in 18 contests, including 31 goals and a team high of 20 assists. She scored a goal in every game played as a sophomore including six points in Notre Dame’s NCAA second round win over Virginia. She had 10 multi-goal performances and 10 outings with three or more points.

Deehan closed the 2021season leading the conference with a mark of 9.28 saves per game in 2021 and recorded double-digit saves in nine contests. She was named the ACC’s and IWLCA’s Defensive Player of the Week on two occasions during the 2021 season and was also an Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse All-American. Deehan finished the 2021 campaign with an ACC-leading and nationally ranked 167 saves, which is the sixth-highest single-season mark in program history.

The Irish open their season on February 11, 2022 when they host Central Michigan.
