Five Favorite Photos Of The Week

Nov. 9, 2017

By Erin Locascio

Erin Locascio is a photography and graphic design intern for the University of Notre Dame. Throughout the year she will have a weekly post about her favorite five photos from the week’s events. This week Locascio is highlighting Notre Dame ice hockey and football.

In each post Locascio will give background information on the photo and why she selected it.

Gross Hits 100 Points

Senior Jordan Gross tallied a goal and two assists against Omaha-Nebraska a couple weekends ago. This was his goal celebration in the second period which put the Fighting Irish up 5-3. He is doing his own celebration while screaming and looking at his teammates coming to join the celebration. The assist before this goal was the one that gave him his 100th point, and to me, this shot captures the excitement that scoring or assisting brings, whether it’s for the first or 100th of his career.

Love Pumps Up The Crowd

Julian Love has had three interceptions this season, with two coming in the last two home games. This moment was after he completed one against Wake Forest this past weekend. My placement on the field compared to where the interception and celebration occurred limited my options of capturing him. Therefore, the only time I could get him was when he was walking back to the bench raising his arms to the crowd to get them even more excited. To top off a simple picture, the rain shown adds intensity to the photo.

Teammates Lift Claypool

Chase Claypool was lifted up by his teammates after he jumped to cross the ball over the end zone for a touchdown. Claypool raising his arm up as he is lifted shows how much this is a team sport. Although Chase was the one who scored the touchdown, his personal success is team success. Then, this becomes an even better shot when you know that this touchdown added to a career-high 180 yards against Wake Forest.

McGlinchey Blocks For Wimbush

This is a very basic football picture but stood out as one best shots of the week for a few reasons. I love how it shows what goes on every single offensive snap as Brandon Wimbush looks for a receiver and Mike McGlinchey protects his quarterback. Adding on to that, the defender rushed aggressively toward Wimbush as McGlinchey pushed back just as hard. That shows how tough every snap is in football. Lastly, the background is blurred out perfectly, so the focus is on both players and not just on the quarterback, Wimbush, as it might usually be with a football shot.

Irish Goal!

Notre Dame ice hockey defeated Omaha-Nebraska a couple weekends ago and the win started off quickly as Notre Dame scored three minutes into the first period. After being defeated by Omaha the night before, the quick goal fired up the Irish, as can be seen with this celebration. Gilbert (4) jumped into Theisen’s arms as both scream in excitement waiting for the rest of their teammates.
