Five Core Pillars

Community

Habitat for Humanity Build

– Staff, student-athletes and coaches come together to build a home for a local Michiana family
– Over 600 student-athletes, coaches and staff have participated in the Athletics Department Habitat for Humanity build over the past three years
– All 7 divisions and 26 varsity teams were represented
– Father Mark Thesing performed the house blessing for the 2016-2017 build
– In the spring of 2018, the Notre Dame Athletics Department will take part in the Habitat for Humanity Carter Work Project

Excellence

Sports Camps

– An opportunity for students across the country to experience the Notre Dame campus, state-of-the-art athletic facilities, residence halls, dining halls and national championship caliber coaches
– 8,052 children participated in our summer camp program in 2017
– 18 sports with 50 individual sessions, along with 620 camp counselors
– $1,486,546 in indirect sales to the local economy

Camp Scholarship Program

– Camp scholarships awarded to students from underserved schools based on academics, attitude, and character
– 4 elementary schools participated
– 450 students were eligible to win
– 7 students from the Michiana community were awarded camp scholarships
– Current student-athletes spoke and presented awards to the students

Education

Extra Yard for Teachers

– Partnering with the College Football Playoff Foundation in support of the Notre Dame ACE program
– Fulfilling the key tenets: direct provision of resources, teacher recognition, professional development and leadership training, and inspiring a college-going culture
– Raised $665,024 (616 gifts), that was directed to the ACE program
– In three years, $1,606,615 has been raised for the ACE program

Tradition

Gratitude Week

– Student-athletes, coaches and staff members celebrated Fr. Ted Hesburgh’s legacy of gratitude and humility in a very tangible and meaningful way
– 261 thank you cards were written
– 703 calls and video messages were made
– 964 mentors, donors, and former monogram winners were thanked

Faith

Mass Card Initiative

– Sent specialty design mass cards to intercollegiate colleagues nationwide to express thoughts and prayers, during a challenging or tragic event
– Designated one mass per semester for those individuals
– Over 180 mass cards have been sent out to date

Sustainability

– Examining our current practices relative to sustainability in our Athletics venues, and determining areas of opportunity going forward in line with Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’(Praise be to You)
– Identified a Green Ambassador
– The Athletics Department is proud to partner with the Office of Sustainability this home season in showcasing the amazing sustainable features in the newly renovated Notre Dame Stadium. They will be presented via the video board, ribbon board, stadium concourse monitors and on social media
– Partnering with the Office of Sustainability, Cultivate Culinary and Levy Restaurants in a food rescue initiative. Food that can be donated after football games is given to Cultivate Culinary and distributed amongst the Michiana Community
– The food rescue mission with Cultivate Culinary will expand into the basketball and hockey seasons. Also, volunteer opportunities will be extended to the Athletics Department staff and student-athletes
