Fisher and Liufau Named to Comeback Player of the Year

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – University of Notre Dame has two players featured on the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year Watch List #1. Blake Fisher and Marist Liufau each were named among the initial list of 61 student-athletes. The Irish are two of three from an FBS Independent school, joined by Isaac Rex of BYU. 

This season, Fisher and Liufau have each competed in the first five games of the season, Fisher at right tackle on the offensive line, and Liufau at linebacker. Liufau is currently seventh on the team with 20 total tackles, adding a tackle for loss and a half sack. The Irish defense currently ranks 18th in team sacks, 19th in first downs allowed, 31st in passing yards allowed and 36th in total defense. 

Fisher and the offensive line have paved the way for 947 yards on 204 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. The Irish have three runners that have gained over 150 yards on the season, with its top runner averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Over the past two contests, the Irish running game is averaging 260.5 yards per game, seventh-best in the nation in that time frame. Additionally, the offense ranks 35th in the nation in completion percentage, 16th in tackles for loss allowed and 48th in sacks allowed.
