CARMEL, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team is tied for fifth and 11 shots off the pace after the first round of the Indiana Invitational, which took place on Monday at the par 72, 5,938-yard Crooked Stick Golf Club. The Fighting Irish carded a 310 (+22) on the day, while No. 23 Michigan State posted an 11-over par 299 to currently reside in first place. Senior co-captain Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) led Notre Dame with a three-over par 75 and is part of a five-way tie for eighth, just three shots off the lead.
Monday was supposed to feature two rounds of play, yet inclement weather forced the start time to be moved back and only one round could be completed. The tournament will now consist of only 36 holes, instead of 54, with the final round taking place on Tuesday.
Rounding out the top-four teams among the field of 17 are Illinois (304), Texas (307) and Michigan (308). Joining the Fighting Irish in a tie for fifth is Kentucky.
Illinois’ Seul Ki Park leads all 91 golfers after posting an even-par 72. Six golfers carded a 74 on the day and they are tied for second.
Notre Dame freshman Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) is currently tied for 23rd with a five-over par 77, while her classmate Julie Kim (Bayside, N.Y./Bayside) is tied for 30th after shooting a 78.
Fighting Irish sophomore Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Collegiate Parkside Institute) carded an eight-over par 80 to reside in a tie for 46th. Completing the Notre Dame lineup is freshman Kristin Wetzel (Middletow, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep), who fired an 81 and is tied for 54th overall.
The second and final round of the Indiana Invitational will take place on Tuesday, April 10 with a shotgun start scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (ET).
