Fighting Irish Roll Out Carpet For Pittsburgh

Oct. 29, 2008

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The first dual meet of the 2008-09 season for the Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team will be held Friday (Oct. 31) versus Pittsburgh at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The meet’s first horn will sound at 5 p.m. (ET).

The competition will be held on the eve of a matchup between the two school’s football teams. Last season, Notre Dame battled USC in the pool before the football squads squared off against each other.

This will be the 12th time that the Irish and Panthers have faced off in dual-meet action. Notre Dame holds a commanding 10-1 record over Pittsburgh, losing to the BIG EAST Conference rival for the first time by a 148-150 margin last season.

Notre Dame spent last weekend competing at Washington State’s Debbie Pipher Invitational. The team split into a pair of squads (Blue and Gold) to balance the field and won seven of the 17 events. Washington State tallied 393 points with Notre Dame’s `Blue’ team earning 328 and the `Gold’ team racking up 321. Ohio (314) was fourth followed by Idaho (253) and Fresno State (188).

The Irish are receiving votes in the latest CollegeSwimming.com dual-meet poll.
