NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team is ranked 16th in the Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Yearbook preseason poll. The Fighting Irish were also selected to finish second in the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) by the publication. Senior attackman Brian Hubschmann (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) and junior goaltender Joey Kemp (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep) earned preseason All-America honors from the magazine.

Both Hubschmann and Kemp were honorable mention All-America selections. Hubschmann was the team’s co-leading scorer one season ago with 50 points on a team-high 31 goals and 19 assists. Kemp was a USILA honorable mention All-America selection last season. He started all 15 games, posting a 7.54 goals-against average and a .596 save percentage. Denver, the reigning GWLL champion, was picked to finish first in the league again in 2007 by the Face-Off Yearbook. The Irish were behind Denver in the projection, followed by Ohio State, Air Force and Butler with Quinnipiac and GWLL newcomer Bellarmine both selected to finish sixth. Notre Dame finished second in the conference last season with a 3-2 league record.

Joining Kemp on the Face-Off Yearbook Preseason All-GWLL Team were his classmates Taylor Clagett (Chesapeake Beach, Md./DeMatha) (FO) and Ross Zimmerman (Utica, Mich./Brother Rice) (D).

The Irish are coming off a 10-5 season in 2006, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Notre Dame fell to eventual national champion Virginia 14-10 in the first round.

Notre Dame opens the 2007 season with a home tilt against Loyola College on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1:00 p.m. The Greyhounds are ranked No. 12 in the Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Yearbook preseason poll.
