Fighting Irish In 16th-Place Following First Round At The `Mo' Morial

BRYAN, Texas – The Notre Dame women’s golf team fired a 334 (+46) during Friday’s first round of the `Mo’ Morial at the par 72, 6,307-yard Traditions Club to place 16th overall heading into Saturday’s second round of play. Senior co-captain Katie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) paced the Irish with a seven over par 79 on the day to reside in a tie for 23rd.

Texas A&M, the host school for the tournament, leads the strong 18-team field with a 306 (+18) total after the first round. The Aggies entered play at No. 19 in the latest golfstat.com rankings, while Arkansas is 10th in the rankings. The Razorbacks are one shot behind the Aggies heading into the second round.

UTEP’s Jullianne Kim is atop the individual leader board with an even-par 72.

Junior Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) is second among Notre Dame golfers with an 82 (+10) and she is tied for 49th overall. Irish senior Lauren Gebauer (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) is four shots behind Nakazaki with an 86 (+14) and in a tie at 70th. Freshman Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) is close behind Gebauer with an 87 (+15) for Notre Dame, while senior co-captain Suzie Hayes (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto College) rounded out the Irish scoring with a 91 (+19) on the day.

Saturday’s second round will get underway with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT). Live results of the tournament are available at golfstat.com.
