Fighting Irish Fan Chat - Feb. 24

Feb. 23, 2011

UND.com is debuting another of its new interactive features for the 2010-11 season, with its weekly Fighting Irish Fan Chats. UND.com will sit down for a live chat session with student-athletes, coaches and administrators making news in the world of Fighting Irish athletics. Fans are invited to join in and offer questions or comments for our guests, and if you can’t join us live, each chat will be archived so you can return to UND.com at your convenience and read what your favorite Notre Dame athletic personalities have to say on a variety of topics.

Thursday’s Fighting Irish Fan Chat will welcome Notre Dame assistant women’s basketball coach Niele Ivey and head men’s golf coach Jim Kubinski to the forum to take your questions on a variety of topics. Kubinski will open the chat at 1 p.m. (ET), with Ivey jumping on board at the bottom of the hour (1:30 p.m. ET).

Kubinski is in his seventh season at Notre Dame, and has led this year’s Fighting Irish to a 57-4 fall record and top-30 rankings by both Golfweek and Golfstat. Notre Dame also has picked up 19 votes in the first Golf World coaches poll of the spring season, putting the Fighting Irish within striking distance of the national top 25 for the first time in the poll’s history. After a fifth-place finish (and 1-0-2 record) at The Match Play event in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 11-12, Notre Dame will tee off the balance of its spring season on March 5 with its Alumni Matches in Scottsdale, Ariz., and then face Yale in the Challenge Cup in Greensboro, Ga., on March 14.

Ivey, a 2001 Notre Dame graduate, is in her fourth season as an assistant coach at her alma mater, having helped the Fighting Irish to a 99-29 (.773) record during her tenure, along with two NCAA Sweet 16s in the past three seasons. This year, Notre Dame is 23-5 overall, 12-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, and is ranked eighth in the latest Associated Press poll and seventh in the current ESPN/USA Today coaches poll. The Fighting Irish, who have won 18 of their last 20 games, will return to action at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday when they play host to Cincinnati on Senior Day at Purcell Pavilion — UND.com will have a free live webcast of the game.
