Fighting Irish Fan Chat - Feb. 22

Feb. 21, 2011

UND.com is debuting another of its new interactive features for the 2010-11 season, with its weekly Fighting Irish Fan Chats. UND.com will sit down for a live chat session with student-athletes, coaches and administrators making news in the world of Fighting Irish athletics. Fans are invited to join in and offer questions or comments for our guests, and if you can’t join us live, each chat will be archived so you can return to UND.com at your convenience and read what your favorite Notre Dame athletic personalities have to say on a variety of topics.

Tuesday’s Fighting Irish Fan Chat will feature Notre Dame’s veteran men’s tennis coach Bob Bayliss and Fighting Irish senior women’s lacrosse defender Lauren Fenlon taking your questions live. Bayliss will open our chat at 1:30 p.m. (ET) before handing things off to Fenlon at 2 p.m. (ET).

Bayliss recently was announced as part of this year’s Hall of Fame class for the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic, with the induction ceremonies set for the opening day of this year’s tournament on Friday in Montgomery, Ala. Bayliss is in his 24th season at Notre Dame and 41st overall, having led the Fighting Irish to 19 NCAA Championship appearances in the past 20 seasons while finishing among the top 20 on 10 occasions. In 1992, he led the Fighting Irish to the NCAA title match, piloting a squad that included David DiLucia, the other Notre Dame member of the Blue-Gray Classic Hall of Fame. Bayliss is fourth among active coaches in career victories, tallying more than 700 wins during his coaching career.

Fenlon has been one of the anchors for the Notre Dame defense the past three seasons, starting 37 of the past 42 Fighting Irish contests, including all 21 in the past two seasons (2010-11). The 10th-ranked Fighting Irish are coming off a nailbiting 14-11 loss to No. 2 Northwestern last Saturday night at the Loftus Sports Center. Notre Dame is 1-2 this season (20-6 win at California, 13-12 loss at No. 13 Stanford), as it prepares to head to Pittsburgh for a noon (ET) Saturday game at Duquesne.
