Ferguson Adds Name to NCAA Qualifying List

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Lindsey Ferguson became the third Irish track and field student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships as several other members of the Irish squads advanced to the finals of the Indiana Invitational Friday at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington.

Ferguson finished fourth in the women’s mile with a time of 4:45.92 to set an NCAA provisional qualifying. Irish athletes also claimed several first-place finishes, including Molly Hirt in the women’s 3000 meters, Jaclyn Espinoza in the shot put, Mitch Lorenz in the men’s 600-meter run, Jack Howard in the men’s 600-meter invitational, the Irish A squad in the men’s distance medley relay and Doug Onuscheck in the men’s high jump.

The Indiana Invitational continues Saturday with events beginning at 10:30 a.m. (ET).

Women’s 200m: Joanna Schultz finished third with a time of 24.78, behind Lincoln’s Semoy Hackett in first at 24.01 and Janika Martell in second with a time of 24.49.

Women’s 600m: Kelly Langhans clocked in at 1:32.71 to finish second, behind Leander Ernest, running unattached, at 1:32.03. Natalie Johnson finished fifth in 1:34.04, Samantha Williams in sixth at 1:34.87 and Allison Schroeder in seventh with a time of 1:34.91

Women’s Mile Invitational: Lindsey Ferguson finished fourth with a time of 4:45.92. Indiana’s Molly Beckwith won the event in 4:43.44, while five athletes set NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

Women’s Mile Run: Molly Sullivan finished fifth in 4:58.74. Illinois State’s Aisha Praught was first with a time of 4:57.23, followed by DePauw’s Lauren Reich in second at 4:57.24 and Pam Staton, unattached, in third at 4:57.80.

Women’s 3000m Invitational: Indiana’s Sarah Pease won the event with a time of 9:34.23, followed by Missouri State’s Terry Phillips in second at 9:38.44 and Marissa Treece in third with a time of 9:44.47.

Women’s 3000m Run: Molly Hirt was the top finisher with a time 10:07.91 as unattached runner Amy Horst finished second in 10:08.64.

Women’s 60m Hurdles: Nevada Sorenson was the top preliminary runner with a time of 8.59. Maddie Buttinger also qualified for the finals with a time of 9.38 and a 16th-place finish.

Women’s High Jump: Kendra Jennings tied six other athletes for second with a mark of 1.63m (5-4 1/4). Missouri State’s Mareneika Goffe won the event with a height of 1.68m (5-6).

Women’s Pole Vault: Annie Polcari tied for second with a height of 3.50m (11-5 3/4), while Wright State’s Erica Kemp was the top vaulter with a mark of 3.65m (11-11 3/4).

Women’s Long Jump: Jasmine Williams finished eighth with a jump of 5.28m (17-4). Mississippi State’s Keisha Wallace won the event with a mark of 5.52m (18-1 1/20.

Women’s Triple Jump: Jasmine Williams recorded a mark of 11.08m (36-4 1/4) to finish 15th.

Women’s Shot Put: Jaclyn Espinoza was the top finisher with a mark of 14.26m (46-9 1/2). Missouri State’s Jelani Kelly finished second at 13.98m (45-10 1/2), and Rudy Atang was third with a throw of 13.76m (45-1 3/4).

Men’s 60m: Eric Quick finished 24th in the preliminary run with a time of 7.13, followed by Tyrell Atkins in 25th at 7.15. Miklos Szebeny finished 29th at 7.23, Ted Glasnow was 39th in 7.49 and Dean Odegard finished 42nd with a time of 7.95.

Men’s 200m: Tyrell Atkins finished 11th with a time of 22.81.

Men’s 600m Run: Mitch Lorenz won the event with a time of 1:21.00, followed by Loyola’s Declan Murray (1:21.55) and Nolan Fine (1:23.06) in second and third, respectively.

Men’s 600m Invitational: Jack Howard was the top finisher with a time of 1:19.70, while Kevin Labus was fifth in 1:21.30, Trent Sayers finished seventh in 1:23.14 and Matthew Brown was ninth with a time of 1:24.91.

Men’s Mile: Daniel Clark clocked in at 4:11.90 to finish fourth, while Rend Lake’s James Grantham won the event with a time of 4:09.32. Joe Miller finished seventh in 4:13.44 and J.P. Malette was ninth in 4:16.52.

Men’s 60m Hurdles: Justin Schneider qualified for the finals with a 12th-place finish and a time of 8.82. Ted Glasnow also qualified for the finals with a time of 9.41.

Men’s Distance Medley Relay: The Irish A squad won the event with a time of 9:53.24, followed by Marquette in second at 10:12.05 and Illinois State in third at 10:12.12.

Men’s High Jump: Doug Onuscheck was the top jumper with a height of 2.02m (6-7 1/2).

Men’s Pole Vault: Jim Merchun and Andrew Kolbeck tied for second with marks of 4.55m (14-11), behind Andrew Zollner, competing unattached, at 4.80m (15-9). Dean Odegard was sixth at 4.25m (13-11 1/4).

Men’s Long Jump: Ted Glasnow finished 13th with a mark of 6.12m (20-1), followed by Dean Odegard in 16th at 5.41m (17-9). Marquette’s Shawn McLarney won the event with a mark of 6.93m (22-9).

Men’s Shot Put: DePaul’s Tim Nedow was the top thrower with a toss of 16.94m (55-7), followed by Rend Lake’s Zachary Russell-Ford in second at 16.79m (55-1) and Andrew Hills in third with a mark of 16.32m (53-6 1/2).

Men’s Weight Throw: Greg Davis finished seventh with a mark of 17.82m (58-5 3/4), followed by Denes Veres in ninth at 16.59m (54-5 1/4), Mitchell Gormley in 10th at 16.41m (53-10 1/4) and Andrew Hills in 13th with a mark of 15.29m (50-1 3/4).
