The Notre Dame men?s and women?s fencing teams placed seven fencers in the top 10 at the Penn State Open on Sunday. Freshman Anna Carnick turned in Notre Dame?s best finish with her fourth-place performance in women?s epee. Freshman Matt Fabricant and sophomore Andre Crompton finished fifth and sixth in men?s sabre. Freshman Ozren Debic placed fifth in men?s foil and sophomore Brian Casas sixth in men?s epee. Natalia Mazur sixth in women?s sabre, while senior Magda Krol took ninth in women?s foil. Notre Dame open?s its dual-match season at the NYU meet on Jan. 23, 2000.

Other finishers for the Irish include: George Viviani 12th, Dominic Guarnaschelli 20th, Nitin Chandra 26th and Geoff Kane 34th in men?s epee, Forest Walton 12th, Steve Mautone 22nd and James Harris 31st in men?s foil, Carianne McCullough 13th, Mary Beth Willard 29th and Donna Mowchan 32nd in women?s sabre, Andrzej Bednarski 19th, Tony Rizzuti 39th, Clay Morton 43rd and George Viamontes 53rd in men?s sabre, Liza Boutsikaris 25th in women?s foil, and Kim DeMaio 46th in women?s epee.
