APPLETON, Wis. – The Notre Dame mens and womens fencing teams wrapped their regular seasons against other Midwest fencing teams at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. The men finished with a 6-0 record, while the women went 5-1, with a 17-15 loss to Northwestern. The men finished the regular season with a 22-1 record, and the women finished 19-4.

The men recorded wins over Wayne State 21-6, Michigan 25-2, Michigan State 23-4, Detroit 25-2, Lawrence 20-7 and Northwestern 21-6. Luke LaValle and Gabor Szelle each posted 16-1 records in sabre while Steve McQuade went 15-1. Stephane Auriol and Steve Mautone each won 14 foil bouts, while Carl Jackson and Brian Casas each won 12 epee bouts.

The women beat Wayne State 20-12, Michigan 27-5, Michigan State 25-7, Detroit 31-1, Lawrence 31-1 and lost to Northwestern 17-15. Myriah Brown finished with a perfect 24-0 record in foil while Nicole Paulina went 22-2 and Gina Couri 21-3. Nicole Mustilli went 21-1 in epee. The Irish were without the services of All-Americans Sara Walsh and Magda Krol.

Notre Dame returns to action Sat.-Sun., Feb. 27-28, as it plays host to the Midwest Fencing Championships at the Joyce Center Fieldhouse.
