STATESBORO, Ga. – Freshman John Felitto carded an even-par 72 to pace the Notre Dame men’s golf team during Friday’s opening round of competition in the Schenkel Invitational at Georgia Southern.
As a team, the Irish carded a 297 (+9), placing Notre Dame in 13th place after 18 holes of play. College of Charleston leads the field with its 279 (-9) followed closely by the host Eagles at 280 (-8).
About the Course
Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia, will play as a 6,962-yard par-72 course for this event, leaving ample opportunities for low scores. The club was established in 1947 and has hosted the Schenkel Invitational since its 1971 debut.

The Irish are competing with a regular lineup of five golfers and also have an individual entrant into the field.

The Schenkel Invitational continues on Saturday with the second of three 18-hole rounds. The Irish will tee off starting at 9:36 a.m., paired with Kansas State and individual competitors.
Leigh Torbin, athletics communications associate director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2013 and coordinates all media efforts for Notre Dame’s women’s basketball and men’s golf teams. A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, Torbin graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He has previously worked full-time on the athletic communications staffs at Vanderbilt, Florida, Connecticut and UCF.
